Product Description
Build a roller coaster marble run with this 150-piece construction set. Use your imagination and design the roller coaster using 40 feet oftrack. Add marbles, and watch them race to the bottom. Ages 5 - 9.
We have now bought two of these sets so our 5-year-old can build bigger tracks. Be forewarned that there is a larger set (250 pieces) that contains different parts than this 150 piece set, so simply buying this set twice will not enable you to build some of the track layouts included in the instructions that come with both sets.
I highly recommend these sets for their ease of use and the sheer fun factor. They are easy enough for small hands to put together, and our son has fun creating his own designs in addition to trying to replicate the layouts included in the instructions.
This toy was a big hit with all 4 of my kids ( 7 year old triplets, 5 yr old). The Magnetix iCoaster, a "cool", sturdy rollercoaster was too complicated and quickly abandoned by the kids because it required too much adult help ( note my kids were younger than the age rec. for the iCoaster. That purchase was a gamble). This Skyrail is easily assembled and has so many different possibilities. This rollercoaster is very simple to snap together. The run is long and takes up alot of space when assembled. However, you can opt for shorter tracks when you build your coaster. This also can be partially or fully unassembled when not in use. Half the fun is building it! For extra stability for some of our longer designs, we used painter's tape to temporarily secure the rail stands to the floor. Highly Recommended Toy.
I purchased this product based on the reviews I read and I wanted to give my input for the future buyer. I wish I had know this ahead of time.
This was a Christmas present for my son and it did NOT entertain him for hours like some of the other reviews state. It's HUGE! So much for the extra space in his room.
The marbles keep flying off the track (no matter how many times we "adjust"). This just frustrates him and he goes on to play with something else. The cables are complicated for a child to understand and I am sure my husband would like me to let you know it takes a VERY long time to set up!
My son would have had more fun with a BAG of marbles and he would have had more room in his room.
Please consider this before you buy. Seriously, pass on this useless toy.
My 6 and 8 year old and their 7 and 11 year old friends LOVE this set! They have build many different tracks, both from the book and using their own imagination. My advice: buy 2 of these!!
there's no getting around the fact that this is a pretty fun toy. however, it's not what i'd call durable. the connectors tend to loosen over time and the track correspondingly starts to sag. good fun, just be careful with it. additionally, it's probably best to use this on a hard surface.
My nearly five year old daughter and I had a great time putting this together and making it work. It needs adjustment as you go: there are just limited instructions and some photo suggestions, but it's easy to figure out. Once you've set up a run, you need to fine tune it. Two aspects of this toy are educational: the way the parts work (very creative yet sensible) and adjusting it to make it work. Sometimes a marble won't make it all the way, but by making a loop smaller or the starting point higher, for example, you get success. My daughter helped and made suggestions. What fun. A great toy for parent and child to work together on.
This is a toy that will have a looonnnng life span, especially if you are buying it for a 6 year old child! My son is 10 and still plays with his, and we've had highschool kids at our home who also love this marble run. While it seems flimsy, the pieces are really quite durable, and it is the "flimsy" look that makes the marble run look so cool when marbles are racing around it (and the marbles will go fast) - compared to say, the chunky wood ones.
We have the equivalent of two of these sets, my son got one for his birthday and I picked up another at a yard sale. He and his younger siblings play with these constantly, making truly impressive marble runs. They are into experimentation too, "What if we take out this section and add in these two pieces".
My only suggestion, if you are buying for an older child, is that you might want to consider a larger set.
Also, just FYI, my younger kids have some trouble setting this up on the rug. A flat surface will make construction so much easier.
All in all, A+++, an outstanding toy, an outstanding value considering how many years your children will be playing with it.
So many toys these days are just complicated junk made in China. This rollercoaster is very simple, but offers incredible versatility. Unlike K'Nex roller coasters that are incredibly complex and can be built only one way, this rollercoaster set is amazinginly simple but offers unlimited possibilties for building and experimentation. No instructions to follow... just build. Our 6-yr old has spent at least 8 hours over the least two days coming up with alll kinds of creative coasters. Awesome product. We're going to look at some of the other offerings from this company.
This toy was an instant success with my son, who is six. He figured out how to put together the track in minutes. Unlike other construction toys, Skyrail is not limited to one or two designs. My son can create endless configurations, including loop-the-loops that really work. This toy is also easy to disassemble. The track and connectors seem a little flimsy, but so far -- after many, many uses -- none of the pieces has broken.
