This chair is awesome! Took about 20 minutes to setup. Not a bad process. The manual could of been clearer on the instructions.
Once setup I mounted my XBOX steering wheel to it and turned on GRID for the XBOX 360. It takes about 30-60 minutes to really get good with the wheel, but once you do its hard to get out of the chair! Its the only game I have played since getting the chair. I dont want to play anything else. Its like having an arcade in your living room! If your on edge to buy this thing and have a XBOX 360, GRID and some money...I would definitely pick it up! You wont regret it. I like that it folds up for easy storage too so my Girlfriend doesnt have to look at it!
I was looking at seats to construct a home flight simulator. After looking at cost of seats alone, my wife recommended that I look at gaming seats. An Amazon search found the Playseat Evolution...excellent idea.
The seat works great with the Playseats Gearshift Holder Mount on the left side to hold the throttle and the center post for the control stick. Flight controls are the Thrustmaster Hotas also here on Amazon. When I get rudder pedals, they will sit perfectly on the metal foot rest.
I plan to purchase the seat slider and an additional gear shift mount for a keypad on the right side. Recommend purchasing any accessories with the chair since the chair needs to be disassembled to install the additional equipment.
The chair system is designed for car controls but the kit came with zip ties and self-adhesive Velcro so modifying it for flight controls was very easy and with no additional cost since all hardware was provided.
Just look at the cost of other home flight simulators and this is the way to go. You can order all the parts from Amazon. Sign up for Amazon Prime and get them in two days.
Great product.
Yes the price was a little expensive at first glance, but in the end it was worth it. A must for racing games! I searched many racing seats before I decided to buy this one and I'm happy with Evo seat. I use the Logitech G25 wheel and the whole setup is awesome. The contruction of the seat is durable enough for my standards and I fit nicely in it (i'm 5'10" 175lbs). It's contructed with a strong metal and is sturdy. The chair also fits most adults and middle-aged children(get the slider kit for the seat because it makes easier to get in and out of; sold separately.). Since I have the G25 wheel I needed the sold-separatley shiftermount also. Putting it together was relatively easy, but did require actually looking at the instructions! My only issues is that the slider kit should be standard (not sold-separately) and included in the package deal. Also, it would nice if the design could include a mount for flight games. It's a great looking cockpit for either a racer or pilot! This a great seat!
I bought the seat and the xbox 360 wireless wheel. Make sure you purchase the bracket to firmly seat your whell to the playseat. Everything works and I can't stop racing now, Im officially addicted.
Overall: I like this seat, it is comfortable when playing razing games, it is compatible with my Logitech G25 Racing Wheel (except fore the shifter), and it takes less than ten minutes to put together.
Basics: So the basics, this seat is not the seat you will find in a Porshe, Lamborghini, etc. This seat is far too comfortable for those. It is still stiff and realistic and made of leather though. It has a place for foot pedals and a steering wheel (but not for a stick shift). It is fully adjustable and looks very cool.
Use: I used this with some of my friends over and we found that it was great because the seat moves forward and back fairly easily which is nice for comfort and when you have people over. The chair is pretty comfortable yet solid. I do not mind playing over games in this chair because it is that comfortable.
Bottom Line: Using this game for Gran Turismo is a real blast. It adds to the realism of the game and thats the point of video games. If you do not want to spend the money on this chair then don't bother with a steering wheel or pedals either because it wouldn't be the same. Is it worth it? If you truly enjoying racing games then yes.
I ordered two of these chairs (black) to use with Logitech wheels and pedals, and Gran Turismo 4/5. I expected flimsy wobbly stuff, but was surprised when I opened the box to find them heavy duty, thick metal, and very solid overall. Some parts are downright industrial! Fit and finish was excellent, all the parts were there, and everything fit together as planned.
The negatives are small: In packaging the units, one of the tubes is on the seat cushion, and leaves a 3"x3" 'dimple' in the seat cushion which will pop out over time. The second complaint is the screw-knobs that tighten down the adjustable sliders for pedals and steering column. These screws tighten down directly onto the metal tubes that go inside, and will bend and dimple and scratch them. Shame on Playseats for not coming up with a better way. To avoid this, I got some nylon screws that would fit down inside the screw hole that the adjustment knobs went into. I cut a 1/8" piece off for each of the holes and put it in and let it fall to the bottom of the hole before inserting the metal screw from Playseats on top of it. Then I just tightened the Playseats knob down and the little nylon button serves as a buffer between the metal screw and the inner tube. Mine stay tight and do not scratch the paint or gouge out the metal. You may even find that a nylon screw can be used instead of the metal one, your choice. It does not take a lot of pressure to keep the parts in place, so that might work too.
Back to the positives, the seats are durable, and well upholstered, as good as most car seats! They fit my ample frame as well as my 13 year old 'model' daughter, and during driving, I find the wheels to be very stable while racing, and hard and fast turns are very good, almost no wobble of the steering post and platform. Once I got GT dialed in with the right wheel settings, driving and racing was virtually real, and I mean it!
Overall, it's a 4/5 rating because of the irresponsible metal on metal adjustments. That's the only real embarrassment Playseats is bringing on itself, and it's easily rectified. To Playseats, I recommend you abandon the screws in favor of a pressure latch. My daughter cannot turn the knobs to adjust the seat once they are tightened, but I can do it easily. Since these are used mostly by younger folks, some consideration should be given to a more friendly adjustment mechanism.
Get them, they are worth the money. The nylon screws are available at Lowes for $0.50

I have been sim-racing for a while now with everything mounted to my computer desk. And my biggest peeve was the fact that it was a hassle removing everything when I was done racing, so I would leave everything on my desk and work around it. This wasn't very comfortable and I needed to find a solution. Well This Seat is really great it allows me to have everything setup and I can simply pull it away from the computer desk when I'm done racing.
The build on this is very impressive, its very sturdy steel and will handle just about any abusive driving situation that you will throw at it. It came with all the hardware needed to attach the G25 to the base plates which only adds to the sturdiness of the whole setup. I am 6'2 and was able to find a comfortable driving position with the amount of adjustments this seat allows.
My only problem was with the optional gear shift attachment as it doesn't have a vertical height adjustment feature and I find it sits a little low and will take some getting used to.
Overall this is a great addition to any sim racers setup and I highly recommend it!!
There's a whole list of good things I can say about this chair, too many to write. If you're considering and can overcome the price, go for it!
It's solid as a rock. The chair is comfortable. There are just the right amount of adjustments. It's great.
I highly recommend the shifter attachment and the Logitech G25 racing wheel. If you're a racer, this is for you!
Most of the other reviewers have covered almost everything there is to say about this seat.
I want to point out a subtle yet significant difference between the Evolution and Classic.
In the Classic the foot rest comes BEFORE the steering wheel support structure. In the Evolution the foot rest comes AFTER the structure. This has some significant advantages and disadvantages:
1. The new placement of the steering wheel support structure in the Evolution makes it more stable and also more adjustable.
2. However the new placement of the structure BEFORE the footplate poses some problems with your legs reaching the foot pedals especially when you want to use the foot pedals in the style that most are accustomed to using in their everyday car (ie right foot operates both gas and brake). This is because the steering wheel support bar rises between your legs and therefore becomes a partial obstruction. So in order to make this work you need to shift the pedal as far right as possible, but unfortunately the foot plate doesn't quite go far enough, and as a result you need to use velco and/or twist ties to properly secure the pedals.
Issue 2 is not a problem in the Classic because your legs are completely unobstructed. However the Classic does suffer from stability issues, both because they use smaller metal frames and because of this arching steering wheel support design.
Also Issue 2 is not a problem if you are used to an autoracing style of foot pedal control- ie left foot for brake and right foot for gas.
Overall it is sturdy and well made seat.
One separate issue I'd like to point out is that the seat does not secure the Xbox 360 wheel very well and you have to use additional velcro. This tends to make the seat a bit unstable. So you should consider also purchasing the metal attachment for the 360 that is also available by Playseat on Amazon.
If you want to improve your racing game, this is it. Its as close to real racing as you can get. I've raced cars for the last 20 years, and this is as close to a real racing seat as you can get for a game system.
Cheap at the price listed and well worth it.
