Product Description
Oppenheim Toy Porfolio Platinum Award 2006! Nominated-Outdoor Toy of the Year 2006! Kids' race car of the future. Hop on the Plasma Car & prepare to zip, zoom & cruise! No typical toy pedal car, this revolutionary ride on toy has even adults Plasma Car crazy! Plasma Car harnesses the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity & friction. An inside or outside toy designed like a trike with no pedals, gears or batteries! More fun than a scooter & supports up to 220 pounds! Yep, even Grandpa can take a spin!!!
The car I purchased was advertised as a Plasma car, but when it arrived, I knew it wasn't the real thing but instead a generic version called the Whrilly Roller. The actual Plasma car as enjoyed by the neighbor children, is much heavier and has a 2 tone appearance, with the seat being one color and the body a different color. The one I bought off Amazon was all one color and much lighter. It's not bad...it's just not what we expected and certainly not as advertised.
I bought the PlasmaCar for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She enjoys sitting on it and scooting along, but has had very little opportunity as my 5 and 3 year old have adopted it. My 5 year old especially just LOVES this car. She never gets tired of riding around on it. The car was a present in the Winter and worked great inside, but now in the nicer Spring weather, she is having great fun riding it around the garden. 3 girls, 1 PlasmaCar, I definitely anticipate buying more of these in future. I love the fact that adults can use it to, every now and again the girls let their old mum have a turn :) Fun, well made and appropriate for a wide age range.
Great toy my kids got hooked at a friends and it has been a great christmas preasent that has not been forgotten.
Great toy---almost magical---in ideal conditions. My daughter loved, I mean LOVED it inside on our ceramic tile floor. Our almost smooth driveway was also some fun. Our asphalt culdesac and quiet street were a disaster. She was VERY disappointed that the thing barely moved on the street. The closer you can get to glass to ride this thing on the better. But even our slightly "pebbly rough" street is way too much for it. You would easily have thought it would have been fine! If I knew this ahead of time, I probably wouldn't have bought it. We will have to drive somewhere just to use it outside other than our short steeper driveway. Consider where you have a VERY smooth surface, an area recently paved or recoated at least, before you buy. When it works (5+ stars)---it's great, when it doesn't it's just a big dissappointment (0- stars).
I was back and forth about getting our kids (6, 4, 2) one for Xmas. Boy am I glad I did! The six year old rides it around the kitchen (it's been raining here) while the two year old sits on the back and the four year old pushes. The four year old can ride it no problem, it's a bit too advanced for the two year old to manage by himself, but he loves catching rides with his sibs. I even took it for a spin around the kitchen while the kids were out with their dad. What fun! It was a huge hit! I bought mine at our local toy store for $59, everywhere else had it for $69. Get one, they are a blast! The purple one looks a bit darker in person more of a purple-navy, it's a good choice for boys or girls.
We started out with two plasma cars for our four children ages 2 to 8. We now have four cars. It was just too hard to share, every one wants to have fun! We mainly ride them on a large concrete slab in the backyard or the driveway. We've also taken them around the block on the sidewalk. My older three use the cars correctly, my two year old uses his feet for propulsion. I've even taken a ride or two (or more). Plasma cars are fun! We race them, draw our own tracks or just drive the cars around and around. You can get them going at a pretty good clip if you have a slight incline in your driveway or sidewalk.
Make sure you tighten the steering column as tight as possible. On this last one we purchased, dad had to do the tightening. I just couldn't get it tight enough. You may have to re-tighten the steering column every once in awhile.
Our cars have stayed outside this summer and I haven't noticed any fading or rusting. The inside cavity does fill up with water from the sprinkler. However, this easily drains out when the car is tipped up on the rear seat to rest. We will bring the cars in for winter.
The Plasma car is one of those toys that your child will play with every day that there is good weather outside and can be used inside if your floors can take it.
Overall, it's a good investment that your child will enjoy for a long, long time (you will, too).
I recently purchased 2 of the plasma cars just to have at "grandmas" for the kids to play with and I am considering purchasing 2 more because all want to ride them (ages 3 to 12). I have even let them ride them on my wood floors and they didn't leave marks as I had thought they would. I am amazed at the hours of fun my grandkids have had. Our little 3 year old just had a birthday and she got a pink one to take home and she just loves it! Thank you for the hours of enjoyment! It is so fun just to watch the kids race!
This toy is just plain fun. Even for your kids! In fact you might have to get them one as well! It started when we ordered a couple for our two grandkids. Both boys. One barely walking and the other a 4 year old that doesn't know the meaning of walk. Once we got these put together we saw how much fun they were we had to find a reason to order more, so we decided our niece and nephew needed them as well.
The specifics:
1. The toy is easy to put together. All you need is a hard rubber mallet (a block of wood and a claw hammer works just as well), and a Philips screwdriver. (You will not need to put in any screws but you will need the screwdriver with the included socket tool to help you tighten the nut on the steering shaft). There is a good video on YouTube about how easy it is to put together.
2. The toy is sturdy. Check out some of the plasma car race video's on YouTube to see how sturdy this toy is. (In no way do I suggest this is the way to treat the toy, but the videos are entertaining.) In any case they state the toy can handle up to 200 lbs on a smooth surface. I can personally testify that it will handle a bit more than that with no problem. (Hey Plasma Car! How about a bigger model made for us full size 50 year old adult frame types. I am at a significant disadvantage when sidewalk racing because of the cramped posture I must assume when competing!)
3. The toy is fast enough for any toddler, and on a downhill slope can be a real thrill. Toddlers will find it fun and they figure out how to make it move without any instruction. They can also paddle it around with their feet as well. Believe me, they will make it move plenty fast with just a little practice.
4. The toy is expensive but consider that if they start at 4 years old they could ride it for 10 years or more. So it only comes out to about five or six dollars a year. How many toys can you say that about?
5. No motor. No fuel. No batteries. You might think that means no fun. But not so! Certainly it's not as fast as a dirt bike. But watching my 18 year old daughter cruise around the house made me realize that fun riding toys don't necessarily need motors. And since we won't let her ride the dirt bike indoors, (or even her bicycle for that matter) this becomes a fun alternative.
6. Quiet. Except for the giggles and squeals.
If you read other reviews you will see a couple of disappointed reviewers. As for being hard to put together, the ones we received went together easily. You will need a hammer of some sort, and some tool like a screwdriver to turn the socket tool but that is all. Fast and easy to put together. As to being slow, well it can be. It can also go fairly quickly. It's all in how you work the handles back and forth. Really, check out the videos on YouTube.
I think kids of any age will really like the Plasma Car. I highly recommend this product.
The plasma cars are nice for both kids to ride. We didn't have any problems with installing.
I keep these in different colors at my house so the grandkid's have a "special" toy at Nana & Papa's house. I have 11 grandchildren, ages 22 to 6 months--all LOVE these, (except the baby and he will enjoy in a year).Grandparents everywhere NEED these kid magnets!!
